In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, all in-person SAPAS activities and events are cancelled until further notice.  However, we are offering some activites online.  A few of these have a class limit, but some do not.  Zoom in with us!

Yale University's free course The Science of Well-Being
In this course you will engage in a series of challenges designed to increase your own happiness and build more productive habits. As preparation for these tasks, Professor Laurie Santos reveals misconceptions about happiness, annoying features of the mind that lead us to think the way we do, and the research that can help us change. You will ultimately be prepared to successfully incorporate a specific wellness activity into your life.

Poetry Class

NEW!  Online poetry class taught by Dave Healy, former teacher of literature and composition at Bethel College and the University of Minnesota will be offered online on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 pm starting on October 15th.  Class is FULL.

Daily Exercise Classes

We are piloting a Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance class through Zoom, starting on Wednesday, September 9 from 10-11 am!  The class is currently full.  Please call the SAPAS office at 651-642-9052 to be put on a waiting list or on a list of people interested in future classes.

 

ALL EXERCISE AND CHAIR YOGA CLASSES AT LAUDERDALE CITY HALL, CENTENNIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AND THE ST. ANTHONY PARK LIBRARY HAVE BEEN CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

These classes are funded by SAP Area Seniors through support of grantors, event sponsors and donors.

NEW POLICY:  As of 1/29/2019, if St. Paul Public Schools are cencelled due to inclement weather, SAPAS exercise and yoga classes will also be cancelled.

During January through March 2020, St. Anthony Park Area Seniors will be leading a Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance class on Mondays and Thursdays at Lauderdale City Hall from 2-3 PM.  THIS CLASS IS FULL.  Call the St. Anthony Park Area Seniors office at 651-642-9052 to be put on the waiting list or to find out more.  

This class is sponsored, in part, under the Federal Older Americans Act through a contract from a Minnesota regional Area Agency on Aging under an Area Plan approved by the MN Board on Aging.

Daily one-hour classes based on the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program are held at these locations:

Older Adult Resource Series (OARS)

St. Anthony Park Area Seniors is partnering with the St. Anthony Park library to offer quarterly presentations that especially appeal to seniors.  All ages are welcome!

Blood Pressure Clinics

The blood pressure clinics have been cancelled until further notice.

  • Each Wednesday, 11:30 AM-noon, Centennial United Methodist Church-SAP campus (2200 Hillside Ave.)
  • Second Tuesday from 3-3:30 PM at Seal Hi-rise (825 Seal St.)

These Blood Pressure Clinics are given by SAP Area Seniors staff and volunteers, funded by SAP Area Seniors and the space is generously provided by the entities listed above.

Senior Outings

Every year we offer several outings.  Sometimes there is a cost associated with these and sometimes there is no additional charge.  We generally provide transportation to and from the outing.  You can always see what is offered in the sidebar to the right.

Senior Cinema Series

The movies have been cancelled until further notice.

  • Held on the second Thursday of each month
  • Movie begins at 2:00 PM.
  • Sponsored by SAP Area Seniors and space provided by SAP Library-Donations welcome
  • Shown at St. Anthony Park Library, 2245 Como Ave.
  • Light refreshments are served.
